The "Spaceship" Effect
#1
This is the so-called "spaceship effect" we sometimes get when storms pass over, or pass close to us. This one passed close, and we are viewing the southwest edge (often the trailing edge in OK) of a rough one that had plenty of ground strikes, but nothing flickered while I was shooting this. If a tornado were going to form, it would happen on this edge of the storm cell.

You had me at "spaceship." Heh.

This is my kind of photo. I see these formations here if I'm in the right place. The hills here, particularly the forested ones, can often hide these clouds from view, but if you're on top of one you can a great view. A blessing/curse thing.
