Aurora

A friend sent me these photos taken in a town about 100 miles west of me.  They were taken at 23:00 last night.

Very nice. Odd how it's not even like the normal auroras one sees in the northern latitudes. Those are more like curtains with distinct curved lines, but the ones I keep seeing from this most recent batch of CMEs are just amorphous splashes of color.

Yes Ed, that is a good observation. It also seems odd to me that a G5 level storm did not disrupt satellites, power grid, and other electronics more than reported. Maybe Ben at S0 will have an explanation for this.

Good point. Downdetector.com is a great website but there's no way to access historical data to see how the last 24 hours of (reported) outages compare. They at least have a baseline measurement on their graphs, but it doesn't get any more detailed than that. I wonder if their app has more data.
