It only costs time. That's the good part. The bad part is that my bicycle will be in the shop for at least another week.
Here are the gruesome details: This bike has pretty high-end components -- Shimano 105. When I got the handlebars raised, they had to replace some of the cables with longer ones, because elevating the handlebars would be stressed too much. After I got it back, and things were just a whole lot better for riding, the front shifter quit working. I took it back because they had suggested the new cables might stretch after I started using it, and they would gladly readjust the tension for free. The chief mechanic looked at it and found out that the mechanism inside the shift lever was pulling only about half the time.
He called and conferred with Shimano and they couldn't make sense of that either, so they agreed to replace it for free. But it ships from their US warehouse, and they are running behind on orders. So the bike shop is expecting the replacement shifter late this week, or maybe next week.
Yeah, I'm whimpering, because walking still hurts enough that I can't do nearly enough walking to make up for the difference in the workout. The good part is that I honestly have better prayer times when walking, because it requires far less attention than riding.
Ah, the Lord knows what He's doing, even if I don't.

Yes He does, dear brother. As you know, I have been not well for weeks and only this past weekend am I starting to feel a little better. I havent walked my yard since the first of September. Obviously, He needed/wanted me to sloooooowwwww down. Not sure why, but I obeyed and fell into that groove without any more whimpering. Oh, how He loves us!

To be honest, ever since I committed myself to praying toward building or finding a church fellowship where I can teach, I've known that it would require changing a lot of things. Biking would be among those things that must be reshaped to fit the calling and mission. So it's not really a bother to spend a week or so contemplating what role it should play.

They might be running behind on order because people are cycling more (quarantine could cause that), and maybe because of supply chain disruption. My chain and cassette have rusted since I last rode, which was sometime in March, before we all started working from home.

I was told that the delay was because of COVID-19's affect on keeping the warehouse running; they have plenty of supply for a while. And no one is surprised that shipping delays are an aggravating factor.

Got the bike back today. I'm surprised it was so quick. The Lord is good.
