I don't much care for their tactics, but I have to give credit to Distributed Denial of Secrets (DDoS) for compiling a list of ways to protect your identity online. It does take some time to learn how to use these tools, but if you need them, they are free.

I think it depends on your mission and calling. I posted the link here as a reference point, even though I use only a small portion of what they suggest. So far, my mission requires using my public persona for everything. But it occurs to me that won't always be the right way to approach things.
