The Life &Times of Jesus the Messiah by Alfred Edersheim; goes into great detail on the Hellenization of the Jews. Writers of the nineteenth century's predilection for paragraph long sentences make it almost impenetrable for me. The detailed contents pages are a great help allowing me to skip the drudgery and go directly to what I'm interested in. If I live long enough to retire I promised myself to read the whole tome.
