Amen, my brother. I get the sense when this happens that my heart and head are out of alignment, the heart being superior takes over and shuts down the inferior element. In the fuzziness of fatigue, I either fall asleep, vainly try to focus or if there is enough presence of mind, switch to praise. When I finally figured praise was all I could do, sleep followed quickly. For me, there is no better way to conk out than praising God. It's a really good way to wake up too!
I'm not the greatest at prayer, either, if we're talking the actual act as most people consider it. I get "distracted" easily -- I put "distracted" in quotes because I don't see it as distraction but it's how I really am; my frontal lobe attention wanders to various things but I've learned to live with it, because I'm (usually) bringing whatever I'm thinking to God as the centerpiece.
