Have you heard some modern interpretations of the Sodom and Gomorrah narrative? That the particular sin God condemned them for was inhospitality. While I don't think the gay stuff with the angels was the only reason for their condemnation, it was an tangible example of how rotten they had become. The ancient Hebrew would read that and know that it was a sign the whole place would have to have been deep in degeneracy already. The real sin was their outright, extreme rebellion to divinely-set boundaries.
