Agreed. The simplest and most obvious answer is that He was a threat to their system. His teaching was contrary to the oral Talmud and His miracles were too public. He never counseled attacking them in any way, only taking away their fake reputation. Once they got Him to confess that He was the Son of God, contrary to all their structured requirements, He was guilty of blasphemy.
