Priced in Time

Here are the gruesome details: This bike has pretty high-end components -- Shimano 105. When I got the handlebars raised, they had to replace some of the cables with longer ones, because elevating the handlebars would be stressed too much. After I got it back, and things were just a whole lot better for riding, the front shifter quit working. I took it back because they had suggested the new cables might stretch after I started using it, and they would gladly readjust the tension for free. The chief mechanic looked at it and found out that the mechanism inside the shift lever was pulling only about half the time.

He called and conferred with Shimano and they couldn't make sense of that either, so they agreed to replace it for free. But it ships from their US warehouse, and they are running behind on orders. So the bike shop is expecting the replacement shifter late this week, or maybe next week.

Yeah, I'm whimpering, because walking still hurts enough that I can't do nearly enough walking to make up for the difference in the workout. The good part is that I honestly have better prayer times when walking, because it requires far less attention than riding.

Ah, the Lord knows what He's doing, even if I don't.

They might be running behind on order because people are cycling more (quarantine could cause that), and maybe because of supply chain disruption. My chain and cassette have rusted since I last rode, which was sometime in March, before we all started working from home.  Sad
