Carla in hospital
#1
Last night, my daughter and granddaughter went to go visit Carla.  It was not a good night. Carla was in intense pain and has been since her fall three weeks ago.  We've talked to the folks at the rehab, sent emails, Carla has told them she hurts - all to no avail.  Last night, when the nurse was asked about the x-ray, it was discovered that no xray had been taken after her last fall.  A quick message was sent to the doctor and an x-ray was ordered and it was done this afternoon.  I was called by one of the nurses that Carla will be transported by ambulance to the emergency room because there is a fracture.  It wasn't until 30 minutes ago that I found out what kind.  The ED doctor was very kind and concerned that Carla had fallen so long ago and no x-ray had been taken until today.  Turns out she has a cracked femoral head that will require surgery.  Which kind exactly, I don't know yet.  She will be transported to a nearby larger hospital for that.  So, that's the latest update.

Please pray for her.  I will stay awake until they call to let me know when she will be transferred and hopefully have a consult with the orthopedic surgeon.  Tomorrow, my daughter and I will go to the hospital once Carla is settled in.

God bless Carla's heart.  She is being very brave about it.  She is 70 years old.......  And all because no one at the rehab place bothered to take her complaints about pain seriously.  They will probably regret that because this will have to be reported.

The way corporate management has hijacked medicine has ruined everything. What we used to think of as common sense medical routines has now become an excuse to squeeze people for bigger insurance payouts. May the Lord be merciful to Carla.

I will be praying for grace strength and healing for Carla.

Having had two very intimate go arounds with the medical establishment these last few years myself, I have a hard time not "losing my religion" over the state of affairs.

As institutions that are supposed to draw you closer to God, muddy the waters and drive people away, so institutions whose purpose is to facilitate healing, instead often leave us worse off or with a new set of issues.

One scatters the sheep the other does harm to save or extract a dollar.

Yeah, not good at all. Falls are bad enough, but deliberate inattention makes it worse. These people need to get their [BEEP] together.

Carla spent the night in the ED.  They did a nerve block around 22:00, but it was ineffective.  I called and spoke with the nurse, who said she had given Carla some morphine injections.  I looked at her x-rays and see that the femoral neck is cracked right in the middle and then it separated from the head and was pushed upward and outward.  I cropped a screenshot and posted it below.   It is UGLY and must be horribly painful.  I zoomed in but could not tell if there are bone fragments in there or not.  Waiting on call from ED or doctor as to when she will be transferred to the main hospital in Raleigh.  Then I will go.  Surgery may occur today.

God bless you all for your prayers.  They are particularly extra badly needed right now.  Surgery will be dicey, repair procedure risky especially since she is fragile.

I will keep you posted.

Saturday morning, I awakened early and headed to the hospital. Carla had a hemiarthroplasty (partial hip replacement where her femur neck/head was removed and replaced with a "bionic" one.).  Surgery took a little over an hour.  I was there about 12 hours, then headed home.

This morning, I read where she developed a tear just above her bottom.  I really don't what to expect.... as far as when she will be discharged, how I can make SURE she does NOT return to the facility that imho was negligent.  But that is for another day.  I am praying that the Lord will do as He always does - work mightily in our lives.

God bless you all!

Hi family.  I have daily been going to the hospital to be with Carla and literally praying constantly that she would be able to be transferred to the facility that my daughter and I want her to go to.

Hallelujah,  Praise the Lord, I just got word that she will be transferred via ambulance to that place!! I did a lot of research on the facilities that are close by and we already have experience with quite a few of them. This particular facility is a little bit farther (5 miles) than the one she was in earlier this year but I was impressed with them so I am grateful.

It's 16 miles away as the crow flies, 25 minute drive. And there are several different ways through the country to get there.  So I don't have to drive on the highways. This is in my neck of the woods and I am so so grateful!!

Hallelujah again and praise the Lord!! Can I get an AMEN??   Big Grin
