It missed us! - forrealone - 04-19-2019 I am unsure how many tornado warnings (at least a dozen) and actual tornadoes on the ground there were, but they all missed us. One traveled several miles about 20 miles from our house. We did have some strong wind gusts, but no damage. There is still a possibility of more storms, possibly severe. But, I worry not. I pray for those who suffered from the storms and there are several thousands of folks without power. I feel like I have a hedge of Angels about me. Not that I am protected from harm if His Will is such, but I am so very grateful that I and all of my family fared well. RE: It missed us! - Ed Hurst - 04-19-2019 I find that we have been exempt from the worst storms for the past decade or so. As you say, it's not absolute, but it shifts the balance in our favor. There has to be a reason for us to experience the storms; random damage is essentially gone. RE: It missed us! - jaybreak - 04-25-2019 I have a weather alert radio. We get tornado warnings once in a while, but they are for areas more north of us, near the Great Lakes in PA and OH. I think all the hills around Pittsburgh take the wind (hehe) out of any tornadoes that would come here. Usually the those warnings are coupled with flood warnings for our area. Luckily, our neighborhood is mostly in a higher elevation, and my house especially is uphill. The only flooding that happens on our property is at the storm drain at the bottom of our driveway, when it gets clogged with dirt or leaves. Sorry, kind of rambling there. RE: It missed us! - IainH - 04-26-2019 I'm 55 and I've never seen a tornado, I feel cheated. The holler is too narrow for funnel clouds to form, 200 yards tops. RE: It missed us! - Ed Hurst - 04-26-2019 I've had an F5 miss me by just about 300 yards, and my home at that time was just a trailer house. We were huddled in a sort of storm-shelter provided by the trailer park. It reminded me of standing too close to military cargo jets when they take off. We had to pick up a lot of debris from the yard after it passed. That was back in the 90s. The rest have been quite far from us since then. It started by rattling the windows and then came the sound and I jumped up and run outside, looking up expecting the sky to be splitting open, I tell you I was excited, then this humungous plane came over. The tree tops spun in it's wake, I was expecting a fireball because that thing was surely not gonna clear the ridge but, it did. Too bad, my excitement was cut short and I didn't get to play first responder. |
