Nothing Like It - Ed Hurst - 12-18-2018 An old friend of mine, whenever he is asked to sub for a Sunday School class, asks me to help him study for it. It usually takes better than a hour as we discuss the meaning and implications of the Bible passages he is supposed to teach. There is nothing in this world that makes me feel more alive than teaching the Word. It stirs up all those years of study that my heart ensures my mind doesn't forget. It comes to life afresh in my soul and I gain new insights for myself. I have not been at it like I used to, but a welling up of my spirit has been nudging me back. I want to study from beginning to end about 'Faith'. Every verse and ponder each and write what I find in my heart to be its meaning. And keep going until I am done, learning afresh what Faith really means. To me. I have a feeling it will be a lengthy but meaningful journey. I just want to know what Faith is to me so I can best understand it. It is something I am being impressed to do, so I begin tomorrow. Pray the Lord's Spirit will be my guide and give me the wisdom to understand. RE: Nothing Like It - IainH - 12-21-2018 Mmm...definitely a movement of the Spirit. I recently started in Genesis with the intent of working through the OT. I've done it before following the ubiquitous "read the Bible in a year" plan . This time my intent is to delve deeply with an eye on the ancient cultural assumptions it was built on and sifting the western junk out. The meaning and working of the faith of the people involved will be an important part of my project. I will be heavily reliant on the HS's help. As with all my projects it will haphazard, bursts of creative activity followed by droughts. Considering how I do things it will continue until an "Eureka" moment when everything becomes clear at which point I'll stop and move on to the next thing. This is why I was a poor student and will never be a scholar. But, as of now it's my main learning objective. RE: Nothing Like It - jaybreak - 12-28-2018 Somewhat relevant, but I remember having a lot of fun writing these. Bible Book Summaries: The Criterion Collection RE: Nothing Like It - Ed Hurst - 12-28-2018 Good sense of humor on those, Jay. Thanks. The humor part was also a challenge--to write a summary and make it somewhat funny was hard with Twitter's character limit. One of my favourite posts from your blog. 2nd Samuel, in particular, is one of the funniest IMO. Zondervan is missing out on this gold. We were in touch that far back? Tempis fugit! No, we weren't. I'm just a creeper who enjoys old content … or something. That's alright with me. The Internet was created for lurking. The rules for loitering are different than in physical space, despite the pull from some people to just make digital "space" an analogy to geometric space. |
