Oddly, persimmons are ripening very early this year. Normally it requires a frost, but we haven't had one. A few of these are edible.
   

Sand mining pit -- this destroys some of our best farmland.

Dishes with persimmon must be a regional thing, because I hardly see them. Would like to try someday.

They are all seed (8 think) and there's very little flesh left after you get them out, but they are quite tasty. It was a major source of seasonal nutrition of the various native tribes here going way back in time. And today you can find the seeds in deer droppings.
