"500 users at one time" - jaybreak - 09-18-2023 Just noticed something strange in the forum footer here: Quote:The most users online at one time was 500 on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 at 06:04 PM That was pretty recent. Previously, the highest that metric ever got when I checked it, was maybe a few dozen? Interesting. RE: "500 users at one time" - Ed Hurst - 09-18-2023 That sounds almost crazy, as if it was more like a mini-DDoS. I didn't see a spike on my personal blog, and the statscounter.com didn't register those hits, though I do have it configured to ignore bot/crawler traffic. See screenshot. RE: "500 users at one time" - Ed Hurst - 09-18-2023 On the one hand, it could be some flaw in the forum software counting ghosts. On the other hand, it could be some kind of bot/crawler presence. I try to trawl the networking underground just a little, and no one has mentioned any such incident, but they have warned that the government does contract for crawlers. There are also little-known technology companies doing it for their own reasons. They might be scoping us out all of sudden. Then again, it may have been a third party testing something on random servers and didn't bother to tell anyone. It's impossible to know right now, unless you get a look at the server logs and can figure out what it tells you. Maybe I will do that this weekend. I believe I've done that before, so I know the process. |
