Released, retained? - Denise - 05-21-2022 "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." John 20:23 I know we recently covered forgiveness. But could we discuss this verse amongst us for some deeper clarity? Interesting to note how the Lord Jesus repeated shalom to the disciples twice and breathed upon them then said "receive the Holy Spirit," before John 20 :23. What are you guys encounters with this scripture? RE: Released, retained? - Ed Hurst - 05-21-2022 When walking by convictions and faith, you are the one in the best position to know whether shalom is actually threatened, or whether something is just a symbol of spiritual victory. They hated Jesus first; as His servant, the world naturally hates you, too. Sometimes abuse is just the proof in your life that you are like Jesus. Sometimes things this world does will actually be a threat to what God has given to you. You should be the one to understand when it's more than you can handle. There's no shame in requesting His support when it's too big for you. Thus, if you dismiss it as something you need to bear, then it's forgiven. If it's a real problem, then the Lord will keep an eye on it. The whole point is that you need to read your own convictions to discern the difference. The Holy Spirit is your live-in guide to help you learn the ropes. |
